N&O, Herald-Sun name new technology reporter, Brian Gordon

The News & Observer and The Herald-Sun have hired an experienced reporter and deft storyteller to cover technology and other business news in the Triangle, as part of the paper’s partnership with Innovate Raleigh.

Brian Gordon succeeds Zachery Eanes, who left the papers after covering technology for almost three years.

Gordon is a native of Rochester, New York, but has been covering North Carolina for about three years. Most recently, he was the senior North Carolina statewide reporter for Gannett’s USA Today Network.

Prior to becoming a journalist, Gordon taught world history in middle schools in New York and Colorado. He has an undergraduate degree from Cornell University and is a graduate of Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism, where he studied business reporting.

Bill Church, executive editor of The News & Observer and The Herald-Sun, said, “We feel fortunate to have landed a journalist of Brian’s caliber to cover an incredibly important beat for the Triangle — the world of technology. Brian’s business background and his range of knowledge about North Carolina will bring even greater depth to our daily business report.”

The grant from Innovate Raleigh and a coalition of local partners provides funding for the technology position, which focuses on the people, companies, key issues and trends in Raleigh and across the Triangle. Topics include technology start-ups and main street businesses, biotechnology and education issues related to those areas. The News & Observer maintains full editorial control over the position.
