The outbreak has been reported in 6 waves, each with a different variant of coronavirus. The first wave was reported in 31 December 2019 which was followed by a second wave with different variant of coronavirus that occurred the following year.
From 2019 to 2022, there were more than 5 waves with different types of coronavirus. High numbers of infections are being seen across all age groups including teenagers, young people and people over 65 years old.
